Dr. Tan Chun Hai is a dual fellowship-trained surgeon specialising in Laparoscopic (keyhole) Stomach Cancer Surgery and Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery.

He is proficient in minimally invasive surgery for treating upper GI cancers of the stomach and oesophagus, gallstones, appendicitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Dr. Tan’s expertise extends to performing endoscopies, screening for gastrointestinal cancers, and addressing disorders of the stomach and abdomen.

Dr. Tan has over 20 years of medical experience, having practiced at renowned medical institutions and hospitals both locally and internationally.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous service awards and held leadership roles, including directorships, in the public healthcare sector.

He currently serves as the president of the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore (OMSSS).

Dual Fellowship Training

Dr. Tan Chun Hai completed his Fellowship in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Taiwan Min Sheng Hospital, Asia-Pacific Endoscopic Bariatric Surgical Centre, under the mentorship of world-renowned surgeon Professor Wei-Jei Lee. He also trained extensively with his mentor, Dr. Anton Cheng, regarded as the pioneer of bariatric surgery in Singapore, for over five years before assuming leadership of the Bariatric Surgery Department.

To date, Dr. Tan has performed and assisted in more than 500 bariatric surgeries. He is also proficient in revision bariatric surgery, including converting gastric bands to sleeve gastrectomy or roux-en-y gastric bypass (RYGB) and transitioning from sleeve gastrectomy to RYGB.

Dr. Tan subsequently pursued a second Fellowship in Laparoscopic Stomach Cancer Surgery at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH), under the guidance of eminent Professor Hyung-Ho Kim. During his time in Seoul, Dr. Tan performed and assisted in numerous laparoscopic gastric cancer surgeries, further refining his expertise in treating gastric cancer.
